Jobs in the Netherlands without a diploma

Jobs in the Netherlands without a diploma

Do you want to work in the Netherlands but do not have a diploma?

That does not automatically mean your options are limited.

For many practical jobs, employers look at more than your education. Your work experience, motivation and ability to learn can be just as important.

In this article, we explain which jobs in the Netherlands without a diploma may be possible and what employers usually look for.

Can you work in the Netherlands without a diploma?

Yes.

There are many jobs where a specific diploma is not always required. UWV mentions opportunities in sectors such as industry, logistics, technology, retail, hospitality and cleaning. Some employers may ask you to complete a certificate or short training course once you start.

Whether you can start without a diploma depends on the company and the job.

For some positions, experience is important. For others, you can learn most of the work on the job.

Which jobs can you do without a diploma?

There are several practical jobs where a diploma is not always necessary.

Production worker

Production work is a common option.

You may:

  • pack products;
  • check quality;
  • operate simple machines;
  • prepare materials;
  • assemble parts;
  • keep the workplace clean.

At BiaFlex, many vacancies are within production and industry. Some positions can be learned in practice, especially if you are motivated and willing to work.

Warehouse worker

A warehouse job can also be an option without a diploma.

Typical tasks include:

  • picking orders;
  • packing goods;
  • receiving deliveries;
  • preparing shipments;
  • moving stock.

Employers often care about accuracy, reliability and whether you can work safely.

Order picker

As an order picker, you collect the correct products for customer orders.

You may work with a scanner, order list or warehouse system.

Experience can help, but for some positions you can learn the work quickly.

Forklift or reach truck driver

You do not necessarily need a school diploma to work as a forklift or reach truck driver.

However, employers may require a forklift or reach truck certificate.

That is an important difference: no diploma does not mean no qualifications at all.

A short certificate can sometimes give you access to more jobs and better opportunities.

Assembly worker

If you enjoy practical or technical work, assembly can also be interesting.

You may build products from different components, use tools or check whether parts are assembled correctly.

For some jobs, technical experience is more important than formal education.

Can you get a technical job without a diploma?

Sometimes.

Technical jobs vary a lot.

For specialist positions, an employer may require a technical qualification. But there are also entry-level technical jobs where practical experience, technical understanding or willingness to learn can be enough.

For example, you may be able to start as:

  • a technical production worker;
  • assembly worker;
  • machine operator;
  • junior operator;
  • production employee in a technical environment.

BiaFlex also regularly has vacancies in technical, production and logistics work in Barneveld and the surrounding region.

What do employers look for if you do not have a diploma?

If you cannot show a diploma, other qualities become more important.

Employers often want to know:

Are you reliable?
Do you arrive on time and keep your agreements?

Are you willing to learn?
Can someone explain a task to you and trust you to improve?

Do you have practical experience?
Experience from previous jobs can be valuable even if you never completed formal education.

Can you work safely?
Especially in production, logistics and technical work, safety is important.

Are you motivated?
A good attitude can make a big difference.

Do not only tell an employer what you do not have.

Tell them what you can do.

Should you apply if a vacancy asks for a diploma?

That depends.

If the diploma is legally or technically necessary for the job, you may need it.

But if the vacancy says a diploma is “preferred”, your experience may still be enough.

Read the full vacancy and look at the actual tasks.

If you can do most of the work but do not meet every requirement, it can still be worth asking.

Can you earn a diploma while working?

Yes, in some cases.

There are work-and-learn programmes in the Netherlands where you gain practical experience while studying for a qualification. Depending on the programme and employer, you may work several days a week and study alongside your job. UWV notes that these routes can be useful in sectors where employers need staff, including technology.

This can be a good option if you want to start earning money now but also want better career opportunities later.

Looking for work around Barneveld?

If you live in or near Barneveld, take a look at our current vacancies in Barneveld.

BiaFlex currently has jobs in areas such as production, logistics and technical work. Examples in the current vacancy overview include logistics employees, production workers, forklift drivers, reach truck drivers and operators.

Not every vacancy requires the same education or experience.

So if you see a job you like but are unsure whether your background is enough, ask us.

No diploma does not mean no opportunities

A diploma can help you in your career.

But it is not the only way to prove that you are a good employee.

Experience, motivation, practical skills and a willingness to learn can also open doors.

So instead of asking:

“Can I get a job without a diploma?”

Ask:

“What can I already do, and which employer needs those skills?”

That is often a much better place to start.
